Little Miss Austen – Pride & Prejudice Board Book
This gorgeous book was given to Cassie as a first birthday present, and when I got the chance to sit down and read it with her, I laughed and laughed and laughed the whole way through. The Pride & Prejudice Board Book is exactly what it should be for young babies – full of bright and engaging pictures and very few words. It even encourages counting!
“1 english village”
“2 rich gentlemen”
“4 marriage proposals”
It really is the best summary of Pride & Prejudice that one could hope for, and as someone who is familiar with the book (which is not a quick read), it is a good laugh to see it’s contents put so succinctly into a board book for children to enjoy. And yes, for those who are wondering, there are indeed more choices in the Little Miss Austen series. You can also enjoy the antics of Sense & Sensibility, as well as Emma – completing your mini Austen collection.
There is no better way to develop a love of reading than making sure you start at a young age. I love the concept behind these books, just as much as Cassie loves flicking through them. I can only hope that she will progress one day and pick up the actual books written by Jane Austen and enjoy them just as much.
I am already a big fan of board books for younger kids as they are much, much harder to destroy (maybe I just have a destructive child?) This little book makes the perfect gift for a first birthday and I will definitely be keeping it in mind for future presents. It’s cheap, funny and a great read for both adults and kids, and what I love even more is that it’s a bit quirky and different, which can always be hard to come by when you are our present shopping – what more could you want!
